Hand-crafted original
Commissioned to a private specification, this English heater presents a rearing unicorn in white against a deep azure field. The composition draws inspiration from late medieval heraldic forms and carries the unmistakable character of a noble personal device, executed in a restrained and historically grounded artistic interpretation.
Constructed from two-layer plywood with a central oak batten let in flush, this shield balances rigidity with manageable weight in the hand. The face is finished in linen and built up with layers of azure gesso for depth of colour, while the unicorn device is carefully rendered and highlighted with metallic detailing. The reverse is fitted with a padded canvas backing, secured with copper tacks to the wooden substrate, providing both impact absorption and a finish in keeping with period-informed construction. Every detail is executed without compromise for speed of production.
