1 My Commitment
Shieldwright is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. I believe that every visitor deserves an equally excellent experience.
I am based in Białystok, Poland and sell my handcrafted shields across the European Union. As an e-commerce provider, I am subject to the European Accessibility Act (EAA) — Directive (EU) 2019/882, transposed into Polish law through the Ustawa o zapewnianiu spełniania wymagań dostępności niektórych produktów i usług przez podmioty gospodarcze — and take my obligations under it seriously.
I aim for full conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the technical standard referenced by the EAA for digital services.
2 Standards I Follow
My target standard is WCAG 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This standard defines how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or high-contrast displays.
Technical standard we target across all pages and features.
EU Directive 2019/882, applicable to my e-commerce services since 28 June 2025.
European harmonised standard for ICT accessibility that aligns with WCAG 2.1 AA.
W3C guidance on correct use of ARIA roles and properties for interactive components.
3 Measures Taken
I have taken the following steps to improve accessibility across the website:
Visual design
- Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements for keyboard navigation.
- I do not rely solely on colour to convey information.
Navigation & structure
- All pages use a consistent, logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3).
- Landmark regions (
header, main, nav, footer) are used correctly so screen reader users can skip to relevant sections. - A skip-to-main-content link is provided at the top of each page.
- All pages have descriptive
<title>elements.
Images & media
- All meaningful images have descriptive alternative text.
- Decorative images use empty alt attributes so they are ignored by assistive technologies.
Forms & interactions
- All form inputs are associated with visible labels.
- Error messages identify the field in error and describe the problem clearly.
- Interactive components can be operated by keyboard alone.
4 Known Limitations
While I strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas are still being improved. Known limitations include:
- Product imagery: Some detailed shield photographs may have alt text that does not fully describe every heraldic element. I am working to enhance these descriptions progressively.
- Third-party content: Embedded content from payment processors and social platforms may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We encourage those providers to address these gaps.
If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know using the contact details in Section 6.
